Latest ROH Newswire and Tripleshot Weekend, TNA Impact Results

ROH Newswire
Photobucket

~Ring of Honor released their latest edition of the ROH Videowire a couple of days ago and it features a one-on-one interview with current ROH World Champion, Nigel McGuinness.

I thought the interview was well done and I liked the fact that they addressed pretty much all the criticisms that have been thrown at McGuinness since his title win. Plus, I think the nickname "McLariat" is pretty funny.

~The show starts with TNA Management Director, Jim Cornette announcing the double main event for TNA’s next PPV event, Lockdown (all the matches during this event take place in a steel cage). He says TNA World Champion, Kurt Angle, will face Samoa Joe with the title on the line. Also, Cornette announces that Christian Cage and TNA Tag Team Champion, Tomko, will be captains of two 4-man teams that will face each other in a match.

Photobucket
-Cornette calls out both Cage and Tomko to the ring. When they get there, Cornette tells them that they have to have the names of the people on their teams in two weeks. Cage then takes the opportunity to talk some trash to Tomko, who doesn’t like that too much and the two start brawling. AJ Styles runs down to the ring to help his partner, Tomko, and then Kevin Nash comes out to help Christian Cage.

Photobucket
-Curry Man beats Petey Williams to qualify for the X-Division Xscape Match at Lockdown.

Photobucket
-Samoa Joe comes out to the ring in a suit and says he’s gonna win the TNA title at Lockdown and if he doesn’t he’ll leave TNA.

Photobucket
-Rellik & Black Reign defeat Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin (The Motor City Machine Guns). After the match, “Super” Eric Young comes out and clears the ring.

Photobucket
-Kurt Angle (minus the tube socks) submits Kaz in a non-title match.

Photobucket
-After the match, Karen Angle, Kurt and AJ Styles’ wife, comes to the ring and tells Kurt she wants a divorce. Kurt says that it’s a great idea because with her gone, he can focus on his title match against Samoa Joe. Wow.

Photobucket
-Jimmy Rave, Lance Hoyt & Christy Hemme (The Rock and Rave Infection) beat Homicide, Hernandez & Salinas (LAX)

Photobucket
-Gail Kim defeats Velvet Sky. Kim then gets beat on by Sky and her friend, Angelina Love.

Photobucket
-Kim eventually managed to get out of the ring but runs into TNA Women’s Champion, Awesome Kong, who whips the floor with her until ODB chases her off with a chair.

Photobucket
-Christian Cage & Kevin Nash beat AJ Styles & Tomko in a non-title match via DQ when Team 3D comes out of nowhere and just messes everything up to close out the show

You really can’t go wrong with an Angle/Joe main event, I’m looking forward to it. I hope Joe finally gets the belt.

Super Eric Young is super cheesy but for some reason, I think it’s cool.

I think the Rock and Rave Infection is also a pretty fun gimmick. Check out their Guitar Hero guitars.

I thought LAX were the #1 contenders for the TNA Tag Team titles. But, from the looks of it, AJ Styles and Tomko aren’t even going to defend the titles against them at the next PPV. And having them lose to the Rock and Rave Infection just kills all the momentum from their win at Destination X.

Despite that, Hernandez, that guy…I’ll just let the clip speak for itself.

It’s time for the weekly Kong beat-down.

No Canadian Destroyer from Petey Williams on this episode, which is a shame.

Continuing with the theme of disappointment, the Machine Guns losing to Rellik (which is “killer” spelled backwards) and Black Reign (the.worst.gimmick.ever.) was just *sigh* ridiculous. These guys should be the tag champs but instead, they can’t buy a win.

Kurt Angle’s reaction to a probable divorce was just, classic.

Weekend Update

3/7 Friday Night Smackdown Results
Photobucket
(Pics from WWE.com)

Photobucket
~The show starts with WWE World Champion, Edge, and Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero, in the ring inviting Ric Flair down for an interview segment. Ric Flair starts talking reckless and says he’s gonna beat Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania. It is then announced that next week it’ll be Ric Flair vs. Edge and his two associates, Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins in a 3-on-1 steel cage handicap match.

Photobucket
-CM Punk, Jesse & Festus beat WWE Tag Team Champions, The Miz & John Morrison and ECW Champion, Chavo Guerrero.

-Jaime Noble breaks up with Michelle McCool.

Photobucket
-After getting completely handled throughout the match, MVP finally picks up a win over Batista via countout.

-Jamie Noble demands a match with Chuck Palumbo, who beat him in a match last week, for later that night. However, Noble must have not been watching ECW last Tuesday where it was announced that Palumbo would be facing Kane on this episode of Smackdown. Instead of facing Palumbo, Vickie Guerrero puts Noble in a match against The Big Show.

Photobucket
-A swimsuit contest is then held between Eve Torres, Cherry, Maryse, Victoria and Michelle McCool for no reason, but who’s complaining. The fans are supposed to vote for who they think the winner is by texting. If I had the money to waste, because standard texting messaging rates do apply, I’d vote for Eve Torres.

Photobucket
-Kane beats Chuck Palumbo.

Photobucket
-Big Show wins his match after Jaime Noble kicks Show low and gets himself disqualified. Big Show then beats Noble up and talks more trash about Floyd Mayweather.

Photobucket
-Edge and friends beat The Undertaker in a 3-on-1 handicap match.

Edge is a really good heel (which means he plays a really good a-hole) and I found his segment with Ric Flair at the beginning of the show to be very entertaining.

Way to bury your champions, WWE. The Miz & John Morrison have lost for the second time in two weeks in non-title matches on Smackdown. Like I said last week, if everyone can beat your champions, why, oh why, are they title holders?

The segment with Noble and McCool was hilarious. I thought they were going to let their relationship last a little longer but, oh well.

Finally MVP gets a win but I bet he loses to Batista next week.

ROH Rising Above PPV Results
Photobucket

(Pics by Scott Finkelstein)

~Ring of Honor's sixth Pay-Per-View event, Rising Above, premiered last night. Overall, it was a pretty solid show, here's what went down:

Photobucket
-The show starts with Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, BJ Whitmer and Shane Hagadorn (together known as the Hangmen Three, and yes, it is very apparent that there are four people.) calling out Delirious to have a match with Albright.

Photobucket
-Delirious defeats Brent Albright.

Photobucket
-After the match, the Hangmen Three beat down Delirious. El Generico and Kevin Steen come out to help Delirious out and brawl with the Hangmen Three. While the two groups brawl, the Age of the Fall come out and demand a shot at the ROH Tag Team Titles, currently held by The Briscoes. They are then interrupted by the Vulture Squad (Jack Evans, Ruckus, Jigsaw and Julius Smokes) who come down to the ring. They challenge the other three teams (Hangmen Three, Steen & Generico and the AOTF) to an impromptu tag match.

Photobucket
-Kevin Steen & El Generico beat Tyler Black & Jimmy Jacobs (AOTF), Jack Evans & Ruckus (Vulture Squad) and Adam Pearce & BJ Whitmer (Hangmen Three)

Photobucket
-Daizee Haze beats Lacey and Sara Del Ray in a three way match.

Photobucket
-Davey Richards defeats Erick Stevens

Photobucket
-Claudio Castagnoli beats Chris Hero

Photobucket
-Bryan Danielson beats Takeshi Morishima by disqualification after Morishima knocks down the referee. They start trying to kill each other after the match.

Photobucket
-The Briscoes retain the ROH Tag Team Titles against Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero.

Photobucket
-Nigel McGuinness successfully defends the ROH World Title against Austin Aries.

Notes:

The transition between the Delirious/Albright match to the 4 team tag match was just crazy. I can’t remember ever seeing a match start off like that.

www.Tu.tv

As a matter of fact, that whole tag match as a whole was just crazy. I don’t think there was a dull moment throughout the whole thing.

www.Tu.tv

Seeing someone get hit in the groin should never be a funny thing, but I couldn’t help but laugh out loud when it happened in the Davey Richards/Erick Stevens match.

www.Tu.tv

The crowd was all over Nigel McGuinness during his match, no wonder he recently turned on them.

www.Tu.tv

Speaking of the match, there were parts where I thought one of them had killed the other person.

www.Tu.tv

Despite all the stellar in-ring action, anything else ROH produces continues to seem very amateurish.

Weekend Update (Part 1)

I know I’ve been slacking a bit, but, here’s what went down these past couple of days.

2/28 TNA Impact Results:
Photobucket

Photobucket
-The show starts with Kurt Angle warming up for his match with Kevin Nash for later that night. His wife, Karen, interrupts and warns Kurt to cherish her while she’s with him (and AJ Styles) before she leaves him (but not AJ Styles). Kurt tells her to go away.

Photobucket
-Booker T calls out Robert Roode but his assistant, Payton Banks, comes out instead. Banks says Roode isn’t coming to the show and she then slaps Booker T. Traci Brooks, Roode’s former assistant, comes out of nowhere and attacks Banks before security breaks them up.

Photobucket
-Scott Steiner & Petey Williams defeat Sonjay Dutt & Jay Lethal.

Photobucket
-Team 3D, who can only wrestle if they weigh under 275 lbs, come out to face Shark Boy & Curry Man in a tag match. Neither member of Team 3D makes weight, so the match never happens.

Photobucket
-Left without opponents, Shark Boy lays down an open challenge for any team to face himself and Curry Man. Rellik & Black Reign answer the call.

Photobucket
-Shark Boy & Curry Man beat Rellik & Black Reign

Photobucket
-Robert Roode appears and calls out Booker T. Booker comes out and he brawls with Roode. Payton Banks gets involved and Booker T ends up handcuffed to the ropes. Traci Brooks comes back out and tries to make the save but also gets beat down and handcuffed to the ropes.

Photobucket
-James Storm beats Eric Young in a ladder match to win the Drinking Championship belt. After the match Rhino appears, attacks Storm and walks away with the belt.

Photobucket
-TNA Women's Champion Awesome Kong mauls Angelina Love in a non title match. ODB and Gail Kim come out and take down Kong after the match. Kim and ODB almost come to blows again.

Photobucket
-In the main event, Kurt Angle (still rocking the tube socks) beats Kevin Nash in a non title match. During the match, Karen Angle comes down to see if Kurt is alright and he shoves her down. AJ Styles comes out and carries her out of harm's way.

The segments throughout the show featuring Team 3D trying to make weight were great. This has got to be one of the few times TNA tries to do a comedy angle and it works.

I never, ever get tired of seeing Petey Williams hitting the Canadian Destroyer

Although I see no reason for a TNA Drinking Championship Title (one of the failed examples of TNA being funny) if there has to be a drinking title, shouldn't the winner be decided in a "drinking" contest instead of a "wrestling" match.

I think Awesome Kong is just...awesome. Her look is different from the other women on the TNA roster (since she dwarfs them all) and watching her just destroy her opponents in the ring is disturbingly fun to watch.

The Angle/Nash match was as boring as I thought it would be.

2/28 ROH Video Wire:
Photobucket
~ROH released the latest edition of their video wire. It focused on events surrounding the 2/23 show in Manhattan.

Here's what happens:

-After successfully defending their ROH tag team titles against Jigsaw & Ruckus, tag champs Davey Richards and Rocky Romero, are challenged by Kevin Steen & El Generico. Just as Steen and Generico approach the ring, Richards and Romero run away.

-Julius Smokes, Jigsaw & Ruckus' manager, is very upset that they lost their match for the ROH Tag Team Titles and puts all the blame on Jigsaw not being motivated. Smokes tells Jigsaw to get rid of his mask so everyone can see if he's passionate in the ring or not. Jigsaw says he has to think about it.

-The Age of the Fall continue to try and recruit Austin Aries for their group. Before he can answer, Tammy Sytch comes out and tells Aries to join her instead. Aries says he has to think about it.

-Nigel McGuinness says he doesn't care what anyone says, he'll be ROH World Champion forever...that's not exactly what he says but it was pretty similar.

-Jigsaw finally caves in to peer pressure and takes off his mask.

I'm not really too sure where ROH is going with the whole maskless Jigsaw angle but I'm very interested in finding out. I don't think he and Ruckus will be tag champions anytime soon but. it would be pretty hard to imagine them getting squashed by all the other tag teams after so much effort was put into establishing a fresh start for them.

I'm also interested in finding out how this Aries/AOTF angle is going to end. I think Aries will end up siding with Tammy Sytch and try to take down the AOTF.

I thought Nigel McGuinness delivered a short but sweet promo continuing his heel turn that started during his ROH World Title defence against Bryan Danielson. ROH recently had an article up on their website furthering the angle by saying McGuinness has turned his back on the fans. I think McGuinness as a bad guy is a great thing. In the past, he proved to be a pretty good heel and, like Jigsaw, the turn provides him with a fresh start as ROH World Champion.
